We decided to open the shop in Church Street in St Andrews in the year 2000. We were exhibiting at the golf open in St Andrews and spotted the little premises whilst staying in the town. We had been looking for a base “north of the border” having always found we had a great customer base for our knitwear here. St Andrews had appeal as we loved the architecture, the history, the university and we felt that the “transient” nature of its visitors would continue to complement us and our style.
Thus it has proved so! Our little shop on Church Street is always welcoming, with interesting window displays. We have customers who travel here specifically to visit us from afar (as does our Helmsley shop) and we also welcome the annual visitors who make time to “see what is new”... The comments are always “just that little bit different”!! Long may it last!
For many visitors it is the game of golf that brings them to St Andrews. The golf course is arguably the oldest in the world and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club is still the ruling body for the game of golf. The sport has been played here for over 600 years. St Andrews has a special place in Scotland’s history. Before The Reformation the town was the centre of religious life in mediaeval Scotland. The ruins of the cathedral to this day draw people from all over the world. Also famous as a place of learning - the university founded in 1410-11 is the third oldest in Britain - there is much to do and see!
